The national flower of Trinidad and Tobago because it blooms on 31 August, the day Trinidad and Tobago declared its independence from Britain. This small, evergreen ornamental tree is remarkable for its clusters of bright red flowers. Say root vegetables, the smell of anise, have aphrodisiac effects.
