Defense of the polar region (Battle for the Arctic) — fighting troops of the Northern and Karelian (1 September 1941) fronts, the Northern fleet and white sea flotilla against German and Finnish troops on the Kola Peninsula, Northern Karelia, Barents, White and Kara seas in June 1941 — October 1944. At the initial stage in the battle was also involved troops of great Britain, namely 151 wing Royal air force (eng. No. 151 Wing RAF).
The reverse: the relief image of the monument to the defenders of the Rybachy Peninsula in the Murmansk region, along the rim – inscriptions, separated by two asterisks, above: "the OPERATION to LIBERATE KARELIA AND the ARCTIC", bottom: "the GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR of 1941-1945."
Obverse: in the center of the disc – the denomination of the coin in two lines: "5 RUBLES", below the inscription "BANK of RUSSIA", under it – the year of issue: "2014", left and right – a stylized twig of a plant, right in Kant is a trademark of the mint.
