Dunedin, founded by Scottish miners in the ruins of an extinct volcano, is located in the southeastern part of the South island at the Western end of the Otago Peninsula. Sitting on the shore of a Peninsula jutting out into the harbour, the city ranks second in size among the cities of the South island, and many resembles Scotland.
Trying to describe the Dunedin in a few words, you can just call it the "city of students". It is a major education centre of New Zealand, a large percentage of the population is students (over 20 %). Student famous of the city brought the University of Otago, the oldest in the country.
