Banknote of 5 dollars 2016 - Liberia - World Paper Money P-31a - UNC. Series - 2016 Issue.
Front side: Portrait of Edward James Roy and denomination.
Edward James Roy (eng. Edward James Roye, February 3, 1815, Newark, Ohio, USA — 12 February 1872) — the fifth President of Liberia. Born into a family of successful businessmen. Was educated at the Ohio University in Athens (Athens), and in 1846 left the USA and moved to Liberia, where he opened a merchant's shop. From 1849, Roy began his political activity. He spoke in the house of representatives and worked as the chief justice of the Supreme court of Liberia. Gradually reinforcing its positions, in 1870 he became the first black President of the country. During his presidency the financial crisis, and his opponents are taking advantage of this, in 1871, overthrew Roy with the help of the army.
