Hanukkah. Bulb from Yemen
Hanukkah (Hebrew. חֲנֻכָּה, Chanukah or Hanukkah is the sanctification, renewal; Aram. חנכתה; al-Greek. τὰ ἐνκαίνια) is a Jewish holiday beginning on 25 Kislev and continuing for eight days to 2 or 3 Tevet.
The holiday was established in the II century BC to commemorate the cleansing of the Temple, the dedication of the altar and the resumption of the temple service by the Maccabees, following the defeat and exile from the Temple mount Greco-Syrian forces and their Jewish allies in 165 BC
Three years before, on the same day 25th of Kislev, Antiochus Epiphanes desecrated the sanctuary of Israel.
