Description
Obverse: In the center of the coin – the coat of arms: in a Laurel wreath, on crossed sword and gun, scroll-cartouche with the text (Freedom September 15, 1821), on the scroll sits the Quetzal bird (quezal), a symbol of freedom. Under the arms – the year of issue. The edge of the coin, circular inscription REPUBLICA DE GUATEMALA.
Reverse: In the center of the coin – the image of the dove, the work of P. Picasso. At the top a semicircular inscription: PAZ FIRME Y DURADERA, at the bottom a semicircular inscription: 29 DE DICIEMBRE DE 1996. To the right of the denomination in two lines: 1QUETZAL.
