150 years of the burning of the monastery of Arkadi.
Arkadi (in Greek. ???? ???? ????????) — the monastery on the island of Crete, located 25 km South-East of Rethymnon on the North-Western slope of mount IDA, at an altitude of 500 m. the walls of the monastery form a shape close to rectangular, and covers an area of 5200 m?.
The events of 1866, when 15 thousand Turkish soldiers stormed the island and sacrifice of the defenders of the monastery, made the monastery in Greece, a symbol of the struggle for independence, received the name "Holocaust of Arkadi".
