Republic Of The Philippines (1995 - 2017). Commemorative coins. 70 years of the battle of Leyte Gulf
The battle of Leyte Gulf (the Second battle of the Philippine sea) — the biggest naval battle in history. Took place in the seas surrounding the Philippine island of Leyte from 23 to 26 October 1944, between the American fleet and the Japanese Imperial fleet. The Japanese tried to drive out or destroy the allied forces near Leyte, for the first time in the war by using kamikaze tactics. However, as a result, the allied fleet won a significant victory, sinking, among other things, one of the two largest battleships in the world "Musashi" and damaging the second Yamato. After this battle, the combined fleet of Japan did not undertake major operations.
