Face: Contour map with the coat of arms of Djibouti.
The coat of arms of Burundi — one of the official symbols of the state of Burundi, adopted in 1966.
The coat of arms consists of a shield with three spears. On the shield is depicted a lion. Behind the shield there are three intersecting traditional African spears. Under the shield the motto of Burundi is written on the tape: Unity, work, progress (FR. Unite, Travail, Progres).
The lion's face on the shield — a symbol of power. Lion (Ntare) called the first, legendary, king of Burundi (C. XVII.). It's was the name of several subsequent kings. The three spears symbolize the three major ethnic groups in the country — the Hutu, Tutsi and TWA pygmies who speak a common language, Kirundi.
